Top players for U.S. and International Teams secure Presidents Cup spots
WILMINGTON, Delaware – The top six players for the U.S. Team and top eight for the International Team, who will compete in the 2022 Presidents Cup, were determined with the conclusion of the BMW Championship today. International Team Captain Trevor Immelman and U.S. Team Captain Davis Love III will announce captain’s selections on Tuesday, September 6, and Wednesday, September 7, respectively, to round out their 12-man teams. The Presidents Cup will be contested at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, the week of September 20-25.
U.S. TEAM
NO. 1 – SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER
Age: 26
PGA TOUR Wins: 4
Presidents Cup: Rookie
2021-22 Highlights: Breakout season began with his maiden PGA TOUR victory at the WM Phoenix Open before winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, two starts later. Won the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play and Masters Tournament in back-to-back starts, becoming. Became the first player since 1999 (David Duval) to win four PGA TOUR titles by the end of the Masters. Victory at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play vaulted him to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, where he has remained ever since.
Notable: Will be making his Presidents Cup debut after representing the U.S. at the Ryder Cup last September, where he recorded a 2-0-1 record.
Captain Love on Scheffler: “Scottie is a tremendous competitor and someone who gained valuable experience last fall at Whistling Straits. In 2022, we’ve seen his true potential shine as he’s ascended to the No. 1 player in the world, but also has cemented himself as a guy who has earned the respect of his peers and teammates. 2021-22 Highlights: Reigning FedExCup Champion became the first player to defend a FedExCup Playoffs title with his victory at the BMW Championship. Earlier in the season, won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside partner Xander Schauffele, who he teamed with in every match at the 2019 Presidents Cup.
Notable: Making his second appearance at the Presidents Cup after compiling a 3-2-0 record at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in 2019. Compiled a 2-2-0 record with Schauffele in all four team matches before defeating Joaquin Niemann in Singles, 3 and 2.
NO. 3 – XANDER SCHAUFFELE

Presidents Cup: 1 (2019) / 3-2
2021-22 Highlights: Ended a three-year drought without a win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside partner Patrick Cantlay, then added victories at the Travelers Championship and Genesis Scottish Open – marking the first three-win season of his PGA TOUR career.
Notable: Making his second appearance at the Presidents Cup after compiling a 3-2-0 record at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in 2019. Compiled a 2-2-0 record with Patrick Cantlay in all four team matches before defeating Adam Scott in Singles, 2 and 1.
NO. 4 – SAM BURNS

Presidents Cup: Rookie
2021-22 Highlights: Won the Sanderson Farms Championship in his first start of the season before adding wins via playoffs at the Valspar Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge, where he defeated Scottie Scheffler. Finished runner-up alongside partner Billy Horschel at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Captain Love on Burns: “This will be Sam’s first time playing in the Presidents Cup, but he’s been in the process for a few years now, has been close, and I know he’s chomping at the bit to get to Quail Hollow. He’s a steady, confident player, but also a great teammate and someone you want to partner with inside the ropes. He is one of the fiercest competitors we see on the PGA TOUR each week and is simply a guy who hates to lose.”

2021-22 Highlights: Earned the second major championship title of his career at the PGA Championship, defeating Will Zalatoris in a playoff at Southern Hills Country Club. Thomas, who notched the largest comeback in tournament history after starting Sunday’s final round seven shots back, became the 22nd player in history to win multiple PGA Championships.
Notable: Won the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club. Only losses in Presidents Cup play have come in Singles competition.

2021-22 Highlights: After ending a five-year winless drought at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in 2021, notched the third and fourth victories of his career with consecutive wins at the 3M Open and Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2022, becoming the first player to win back-to-back tournaments during the FedExCup Regular Season since Brendon Todd in 2019.
Notable: Posted an 0-1-3 record in his Presidents Cup debut in 2019, with lone tied match coming in Singles competition against Hideki Matsuyama.

2021-22 Highlights: Two wins, including the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP and Sony Open in Hawaii. His win at the Sony Open marked the eighth of his PGA TOUR career, tied with K.J. Choi for most all time by an Asian player.
Notable: Will be making his fifth Presidents Cup appearance, tied for sixth most in International Team history alongside Mike Weir, Nick Price and Stuart Appleby. Was the 36-hole co-leader at the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, finished T5.

Following a T47 at The Open Championship, accepted Special Temporary Membership on TOUR before securing his first win at the Wyndham Championship to earn a spot in the FedExCup Playoffs, thanks to a final-round 61.
Notable: Will be 20 years, 3 months and 1 day on the opening day of Presidents Cup competition, which would make him the third International Team player in history under the age of 21 to compete (Ryo Ishikawa, 2009/2011).
Captain Immelman on Kim: “As I look at the landscape of international golf it is great to see so much young talent breaking through and right at the top of that list is Tom Kim. His incredible play this summer vaulted him into the top eight on our points list, and watching his Sunday performance at the Wyndham Championship give way to his first victory on the PGA TOUR was a tremendous moment for the International Team, as well as our game. Notable: Represented Canada in the Eisenhower Trophy in 2012 and 2014, partnering with current PGA TOUR players Mackenzie Hughes, Adam Svensson and Taylor Pendrith.

Used a T5 finish at Wilmington Country Club to move to 29th in the FedExCup, earning a spot in the TOUR Championship.
Notable: Will be making his 10th start in the Presidents Cup, which is second most in event history, trailing only Phil Mickelson (12). Scott has recorded 19 points in 44 career matches.
NO. 8 – MITO PEREIRA
Country: Chile
Age: 27
PGA TOUR Wins: 0
Presidents Cup: Rookie
2021-22 Highlights: Earned his PGA TOUR card via the Korn Ferry Tour in 2021, becoming the first player to secure a Three-Victory Promotion since 2016 after winning the BMW Charity Pro-Am. Notched a solo-third in the season-opening Fortinet Championship, as well as a T3 at the PGA Championship in May, where he was the 54-hole leader.
Notable: Will become the first player to earn a Three-Victory Promotion to the PGA TOUR and go on to compete in a Presidents Cup. A total of 12 players have earned the mid-season promotion in history.
Captain Immelman on Pereira: “Mito is a rising star on the PGA TOUR and an exciting player following in the footsteps of fellow Chilean and Presidents Cup teammate, Joaquin Niemann.
